So we are now in June, only 3 weeks away from summer holidays and we are still going full speed ahead. There are lots of things coming up in the next few weeks that you will need to mark on your calendar.
First off...
June 10 - GUA Carnival 4:30 at GUA
June 12 - Year End Mass
June 17 - End of year celebration for parents 2:00 at school details below
June 19 - School wide play day
June 25 - Last day of school
Next Wednesday we will be having a year end celebration. You are invited to come into the school for 2:00 with a picnic snack (you may want bring a blanket as well) to share with your child (only your child. This is not a potluck it is only for you and your child). After you and your child have had a chance to enjoy a special picnic, we will have activities and games for you to enjoy with your child. If you can not make it no worries, grandparents are welcome to come instead. Please email me at [email protected] and let me know if you can make it. Younger siblings are welcome to join us. They can participate in the picnic and the activities, however, please remember they need to remain with you at all times.
Now onto curriculum, we have been looking at graphing lately in math. The students were looking at posing questions and collecting data. They loved this. We saw many little ones walking around with clipboards and papers asking questions of their friends and then displaying them in a graph. It made us soooo proud. We will continue playing with numbers for the next little while. Making 5 and 10 is still a focus. We are looking at methods we can use to answer these questions. Some of the students have discovered their fingers, some like manipulatives, others like to just think about it in their head.
In language, right now our focus is on reviewing our popcorn words. We are playing games and doing activities to help, our complete list of high five words are located in the curriculum links and resources section. For those who are not quite ready for word wall words, we will continue to focus on letters and the sounds they make. When writing we are trying to encourage the little ones to use the words or sounds they know. If they are writing about when they went to the park, depending on what stage they are in wiritng it could look like any of these.

or even 'I went to the park on the weekend'
We will continue to work with your child at their level, and encourage them to continue with their development.
In reading, we are looking at fractured fairy tales, these are stories that are similar to typical fairy tales, with a twist. We are looking at what is the same and what is different.
In Religion, we will continue to look at the community around us. We are finishing up our exploration with plants, and we are going to move onto the theme of celebrations (special days) and change. The Children will create expressions of love for their father and explore their relationship to God as their Father. We are going to discuss their feelings as the school year comes to an end and anticipate the exciting new year that will begin in September. We are hoping to highlight the positive signs of completing a year of kindergarten and an appreciation for the friendships they have made as a trace of God.
Just a few reminders...
Sunscreen - please apply on your child prior to school each day. If you wish to send in some sunscreen with your child, please make sure their name is on it. They are not allowed to share it with another child and they will have to apply it themselves, although we are able to give a little 'guidance'
Hats and Water bottles - Please send your child to school with a hat and water bottle each day.
Extra Snack - many of the kids are getting hungry in the afternoon, they are eating all their lunch at lunch time and don't leave anything for last snack. If you could ask your little one if they need another snack, we don't want them to be hungry.
I hope you all have a wonderful week, enjoy the beautiful weather!
Meghan
