Well it is already November. We have settled in nicely and have surpassed our beginning of the year jitters. The month of November has crept up on us and we are beginning to feel the rush to Christmas.
For Math behaviours, we are continuing on with counting and number recognition. We are focusing on 1-1 correspondence up to 5 for JK and up to 10 for SK. We are also working on number recognition up to 5 for JK and up to 10 for SK. We have started to look at patterning and the children are really good at showing a basic pattern.
In Literacy behavious we are focusing on retelling stories. Once we have read a story we always ask comprehension questions and ask 'What was this story about?". If you are looking for some home reading, don't forget to check out raz-kids.com and use the sign in info your little one was given. It has some great level appropriate books that you can read to your child, or your child can read on their own or the app will even read a book to your child. We are putting a lot of emphasis on letters and sounds. We are looking at each letter of the alphabet and the sounds they make. Jolly phonics is an amazing program with songs and chants to help the kids learn their letters. We are also watching the leap frog series on occasion, as they have some great videos for letter sounds as well.

Some things we are looking for...
We are still looking for wooden blocks for JS5. If you have any you are willing to donate we would love it. Even just a 2x4 cut up in various sizes and sanded down would be perfect.
Crayola markers
Glue sticks
Egg cartons
*** Don't forget with the cooler weather the little ones need warm clothes. Please make sure EVERYTHING is LABELLED!!! We beg you to label all of their belongings. We have a lot of single mitts, socks, even coats and hats in our lost and found. Please Please Please label all your child's belongings.
Santa's Village -
In the month of December we will be inviting parents into the classroom to do a craft with the kids. If you would like to do this, please let me know via email. Each parent is invited to plan a craft and bring in the supplies for each student (We do have scissors and glue and markers). During center time, the students can rotate through the center and complete the craft. It is such a great way to come in and help out, see your little one in action and help create a masterpiece that the little ones can take home for Christmas. Even if you have been in to do it in past years, we would love to have you again.
