We have been diving into the world of pumpkins. So much fun looking at how they grow and using them for all sorts of exploration...
Lots of creative thinkers in the room. We brought out some loose parts and the kids are loving it. Some friends made forests with animals and some made rocket ships. We even had a lesson on balance. Can you balance marbles in the toilet paper rolls?
We even had a visit from the fire fighters and we learned all about fire safety and the ABC's of keeping ourselves safe.
In math, this week we are looking at making an appropriate estimation. This is such an important concept for little ones to grasp. If you ask them how many seeds to they think are in a pumpkin some may say 1 or some may say 1 million. When we can dive in and explore the pumpkins it helps us make guesses as to what is an appropriate estimate. We are also going to look at some measurement and counting by 2's and 5's and 10's.
In language, we are still working on our high five words, looking for them in the daily stories we read and the poems we look at. Using repetitive poems help the little ones learn word patterns and help them recognize letters, sounds and words.
In gym, we are going to continue to work on safety. Watching where we are going and being aware of our body and our surroundings. We are also learning some ball skills and playing cooperative games. One of the big areas we need to focus on is being gracious even if we don't win. It is really hard when our team is not the winning team or when we are tagged in a game.
Friday this week is Halloween and this year instead of costumes we will be dressing up in orange and black. We will have a mini celebration during the day with fun centers and even a movie in the afternoon. You are welcome to send in a treat for your child (***not the whole class just your child) please make sure it is nut free. Hope everyone has a wonderful week!!!
